Exhale, you are here

Hi! Thank you for being here. This is the first step. Finding a therapist that you feel comfortable and safe with can be quite the task! I believe all relationships are significant and our therapeutic alliance is no exception. Therapy should be a collaborative process. You know what your goals are and together we can reach them. If you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, trauma or identity issues we will navigate this together.

My name is Pamela Kirsch and I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I earned my master’s degree in social work from Columbia University where I focused on clinical practice and contemporary social issues. I follow an anti-oppressive framework and apply a strength based and client-centered approach to my work with survivors of sexual assault, childhood sexual abuse and domestic violence. I have extensive experience providing crisis support and on-going counseling to patients who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) or HIV-affected and have been impacted by violence and/or struggle with depression, anxiety or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In practice, I use a combination of trauma informed care and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT).

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) works to change ineffective patterns of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT may be right for you if you struggle with any of the following, depression, generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, agoraphobia, social anxiety or post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

  • Trauma Therapy

A traumatic experience can impact our lives in numerous ways, it can lead to symptoms of anxiety, depression, and negative beliefs about the world, about the self and about others. Trauma focused therapy aims to reduce your fear around certain memories and find strategies to help you engage in your life more fully

  • Mindfulness Practice

Mindfulness is a way to practice being present in the moment. Practicing mindfulness includes learning skills to ground yourself. Grounding skills can be helpful for treating symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), panic symptoms and reducing anxiety and depression

  • LGBTQIA+ Therapy

The lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) community faces unique challenges. You might be contemplating your identity, working to come out to family members or just want a safe space to process your exploration and healing around issues of gender identity and sexuality
